Every journey has a starting point.
Way back in 1977 I finished my studies – or so I thought – with a degree in Social Work. My only mission since I was ten years old was achieved: to help others manage their lives. I soon realised, however, that the road called life is of major complexity. My career as a social worker served as an eye-opener for my young and naïve self. I was shocked by the intense cruelties done by people who have missed out on proper family life.
So, when my own family needs started to exceed what I could offer whilst practising my career in social work, I started to look for a career that could satisfy my need to serve people whist at the same time offering me the opportunity to invest in my own family.
Marketing seemed like a proper solution. It would free me from strict working hours and provide me with the opportunity to stretch my wallet.
My first years as a marketer of therapeutic equipment were not easy. I soon realised how lonely the road of a newly self-employed could become… with nobody steering you in any direction… only the will to move forward in an ever competitive environment. I managed to keep my head above water in my accumulating responsibilities and learned so much about meeting the needs of people instead of selling-off products that they would later regret purchasing.
I was introduced to the Insurance Industry in 1989 when my husband, Danie Burmeister, became Branch Manager of Sanlam in Ermelo. We quickly settled in the new town and enjoyed the stability the industry provided.
In 1993 we became Independent Insurance Brokers and contracted with various different insurance companies to market their products. Danie grew into a Specialist Long Term Insurance Broker with particular interest in assisting Business Owners with financial structures to survive economic challenges. We both realised that Medical Schemes and Short Term Insurance would need to be separately driven in order for us to offer a comprehensive service to all our customers. That’s when I branched off on my very own venture to explore these two new avenues of service and advice.
One special day I approached an established broker, Dave Cronje, with some questions regarding short term insurance. I just couldn't find the answers from my own resources. That very day I received the best advice ever from Dave – right in the beginning of my career:

And so I started reading short term insurance policy wordings day after day after day after day – and I have since never stopped reading policy wordings!

Our journey has since become our relationships. I look back and see the imprints of footsteps of those who have walked with us, learnt from us, experienced challenges with us – and indeed of those who have inspired us.
I look forward to the journey ahead; to the relationships with people who tread with us on this road called life.
